Calvary Community Church will host a touring choir from Africa presenting a concert entitled, “Beautiful Africa: A New Generation” on Thurs., June 14 at 7 p.m. There is no charge for the event.

The Watoto Children’s Choir is part of Watoto, a holistic care program initiated to serve the dire needs of Africa and her people, according to program founder Gary Skinner.

The choir features original African music, dance routine and stories indicative of a new generation of leaders emerging out of Watoto, Skinner said.

The Watoto Children’s Choir has traveled internationally since 1994 as ambassadors for the millions of children in Africa orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS, war and poverty. Each of the children has suffered the loss of one or both parents. They live in Watoto Children’s Villages.

“Through the choir’s concert, we share a message of transformation by telling the story of Africa’s rescued orphans and women. We hope to reach out to audiences with the message of Christ’s healing power,” Skinner said.

Since its inception, 50 choirs have traveled globally, providing the children with a bigger worldview, an unusual opportunity they would otherwise never get. The choirs have been to Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, and the USA, among other countries.

The current six-month tour began in Dallas and will stop in Milwaukee and will conclude in Chicago.
