Darien’s Birds Eye fourth among area's largest food manufacturers
DARIEN The Darien plant of Birds Eye Foods, Inc. is fourth on a list of the top largest 25 food and beverage manufacturers in a seven-county area of southeastern Wisconsin, according to a story in The Business Journal.
The plant, located at W. 8880 County Highway X, employs 625 people who handle fresh-picked, cleaned, quick-steamed and flash-frozen vegetables.
Established in 1973, the company was purchased by New Jersey-based Pinnacle Foods in 2009. It recently completed a multimillion dollar expansion project, hiring more than 100 additional full-time and seasonal employees.
The Darien plant was the only Walworth County food manufacturer on the list. Coming in at number five on the list was Nestle Chocolate & Confections' Burlington plant, employing 480 people who make chocolate confections ranging from Tollhouse Morsels to Crunch candy bars.
