The 2012 inductees are Dennis Bogacz, Jeff Cavanaugh, Mira Hamilton, Darrell Rupnow, Sara Gonzales, Stacey Lueptow, Lori Nelson Ross, and James Toennies.

Bogacz quarterbacked the UW-W football team in 1990 and 1991, earning First-Team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in 1990 and honorable mention in ‘91 when he was also a team captain.

Cavanaugh was a three-year letter winner on the baseball team from 1972-75. A two-time all-conference pick in 1974 and 1975, Cavanaugh was named team captain in 1974 as a junior and earned NAIA All-America honors in 1975.

Gonzales was a setter on the women’s volleyball team from 1993-96. A three-time all-conference pick, Gonzales was also named American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Midwest Region in 1994 and 1996.

Hamilton qualified for every national championship, eight (four indoor, four outdoor), in his track career. When he left, he held school records in the 55 meters indoors, and the 100 and 200 meters outdoors.

Lueptow excelled for the Warhawk track and field team. In 1989, she set school records in the 60 hurdles indoors and the 100 hurdles outdoors and went on to qualify in both events in the NCAA III championships.

(Nelson) Ross was a member of the Warhawk softball team from 1983-86. In her four year tenure at UW-Whitewater, she compiled a 30-10 pitching record while helping the team to a conference title in 1986 and four National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III tournament appearances, including third- and fourth-place finishes in 1985 and 1984, respectively.

Rupnow pitched for the baseball team from 1989-1990. A two-time all-conference pitcher, Rupnow was also named to the All-Midwest Region team in 1989. He helped Whitewater to two NCAA Division III tournament berths and was named team captain and most valuable player in 1990 while earning WIAC Pitcher of the Week honors four times.

Toennies is the 2012 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. Hired in 1962, Toennies served UW-Whitewater for 31 years. With a doctorate in health and safety from Indiana University, he taught physical education and health at UW-W for all 31 years. He was the campus intramural sports director from 1962-68, and the health education coordinator from 1974-81 and 1983-90.

The 2012 induction ceremony will take place at a banquet on the Whitewater campus on Saturday, Oct. 20. The inductees will also be honored at halftime of the Whitewater and UW-Oshkosh football game that Saturday afternoon, with kickoff at 1 p.m.
