Art in the Bay: beauty and a scenic backdrop

WILLIAMS BAY The 11th annual Bay Art Festival will take place in the community this weekend.
Now known as the Williams Bay Art Festival, the event is celebrating their 11th year in promoting the arts.
This year’s event is held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 28 and 29, at Edgewater Park, on the shores of Geneva Lake in Williams Bay.
“This is a juried fine arts show,” said event coordinator Joan Franzen. “We’ll also have selected crafts which include pottery, wood decoys, art glass and jewelry, with artists coming from Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois and Ohio.
Artists have felt the pinch of the economy, but Franzen said these types of events still provide the artists with good exposure, plus they give art enthusiasts a great opportunity to talk to the artists about their work.
This show has proven popular with a select group of artists, who have been back each year. Sylvia Westguard and her son Scott Westguard, both of Arlington Heights, Ill., have been showing their work at the festival for 10 years.
“Mother and son artists, but they have such different styles,” Franzen said. “Scott does etchings and Sylvia does these very fine pencil drawings.”
Artists will be showing oils, acrylics, watercolors and photography.
