— The Walworth County Public Works department will be applying a chip seal to several area roads beginning the week of July 23, weather permitting.

The roads include:

--County Highway N (one mile) from County Highway ES to Wisconsin Highway 20

--County Highway ES (4.8 miles) from Wisconsin Highway 20 to Mukwonago County line

--County Highway ES (5.6) miles from Wisconsin Highway 12 east to County Highway A

--County Highway H (7.8 miles) from County Highway NN to County Highway NN (Elkhorn to Lake Geneva)

--County Highway J (3.8 miles) from County Highway N to Wisconsin Highway 20

The chip-seal process consists of distributing a liquid asphalt emulsion on the roadway and covering the liquid asphalt with crushed stone to provide a new wear surface. Chip-sealing is designed to extend the life of a road by protecting it from moisture and ultra-violet degradation, among other damaging factors.

After the process is completed, a 35 mph speed limit will be posted for one week to allow adequate time for the surface to fully set up. The public works department reminds drivers to obey that speed limit and allow additional space between cars to prevent damage from loose stones.
