With a draw of a card, tie broken in Bloomfield election
BLOOMFIELD By the draw of a card Saturday, Sara Schulz won one of two one-year positions on the Bloomfield village board, ending, at least for now, a tie in the village’s first election, held Feb. 7.
Richard Olenoski, who had tied with Schulz at 114 votes called for a recount, which was held Wednesday. The vote totals for Olenoski and Schulz did not change, according to Martie Wells, Bloomfield town clerk and acting village clerk. This means Sara Schulz remains the winner for the one-year term position on the Bloomfield village board.
Wells said Olenoski can appeal the recount in five business days in circuit court.
Sheila Reiff, Walworth County Clerk of Courts, who oversaw the election, said the method of drawing the highest card was decided Saturday.
Reiff, who was at the Bloomfield Town Hall Saturday to oversee the canvassing of votes, said she doesn’t know if Olenoski will ask for a recount, but she is prepared for one.
Election officials also were required by Kevin Kennedy, director and general counsel for Wisconsin’s Government Accountability Board, to wait until 5 p.m. Friday for an outstanding absentee ballot. Reiff said the ballot never arrived.
Six candidates ran for the two one-year positions open on the board. Gary Grolle won the other position.
William Holder and Doug Mushel were the only candidates seeking two two-year terms on the board, and Ken Monroe ran unopposed for village president.
