Know of any Walworth County green schools?
WALWORTH COUNTY Applications are due Feb. 15 for schools that wish to be recognized as a Wisconsin Green Ribbon School.
The national Green Ribbon School Award will be given to schools that take a comprehensive approach to making their schools green. Schools must demonstrate achievement in three areas: net zero environmental impact, positive impact on the health and performance of students and staff and have 100 percent of graduates be environmentally and sustainability literate.
Applications can be found online at http://dpi.wi.gov/cal/environmental-ed.html.
Up to four Wisconsin schools will be selected and have their applications forwarded to the U.S. Department of Education as Wisconsin's nominees for the Green Ribbon School Award. National winners will be announced between April 15 and April 22 during Earth Week.
"Being green is more than just focusing on recycling paper or turning off electrical equipment when not in use, but rather establishing an awareness of how our actions affect each other and our world," said Tony Evers, superintendent of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. "This award is deigned to recognize schools that help students and educators establish and move toward the goal of improving the overall health and environment of their school community."
