First-half run sparks Monroe boys

A late first-half run proved to be the difference Thursday night for Monroe's boys basketball team.

The Cheesemakers went on a 9-0 run to end first half and pulled away in the second half for a 52-32 win over Elkhorn in the second game of the Elkhorn Holiday Tournament.

Monroe (8-1), which outscored Elkhorn 30-14 in the second and third quarters, got 11 points from Brian Schneider. The Cheesemakers play Westosha Central today.

Arik Anderson led Elkhorn (4-5) with nine points. Elkhorn plays Monona Grove today.

-- Little Chute 56, East Troy 53—Turner Botz scored 16 points as the unbeaten Mustangs rallied past the Trojans in the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Shootout Tournament at Concordia College.

Little Chute (10-0), which is coached by former Orfordville Parkview head man Mickey Martin, rallied from a 26-22 halftime deficit.

Nate Dodge led East Troy (7-2) with 19 points.
