The third period proved to be the downfall for the Janesville Bluebirds on Tuesday night.

Sun Prairie scored twice in the third to break a 1-1 tie and went on to a 3-1 Big Eight Conference win over Janesville's high school boys co-op team at the Janesville Ice Skating Center.

Janesville (2-7, 2-4) took a 1-0 lead in the second on Trevor Kelley's goal, but Sun Prairie tied it on Carson Sanders' unassisted goal in the second.

"We played pretty well, but once again we just couldn't finish around the net," Janesville coach John Mauermann said. "We hit the post once and had a couple of other really good scoring opportunities but couldn't convert.

"It's frustrating because we've been in every game in the third period but one or two, but our record doesn't reflect it."

Janesville is scheduled to play Madison East/La Follette on Thursday at the Janesville Ice Skating Center but may move the game up to today with the area under a Winter Storm Warning for Thursday.
