— Wisconsin hunters registered over 243,000 deer during the state's nine-day gun season this year, a 7.7 percent increase over 2011.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources released its report on the 2012 deer season Tuesday, which also says the preliminary tally shows that hunters harvested close to 115,000 bucks for a 12 percent increase over last year. The final tallies are expected to rise once all tags are counted.

The report says over 633,000 hunters from every state and several foreign countries bought deer licenses this year, including nearly 29,000 new hunters. It says some hunters reported seeing more deer than in past years.

In a separate report, the DNR says seven people were shot, including one fatality. Wardens also reported 994 citations and arrests, down 15 from last year.
