— A Delavan man pleaded guilty Friday to arson in connection with a Feb. 10 fire that destroyed a vacant town of Troy house.

Shawn Haus, 20, pleaded guilty to arson to property other than a building as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. Defense attorney James Duquette explained to Walworth County Judge John Race that the reduced charge was justified because the structure was technically not a building because it had been abandoned about 20 years ago.

The Troy Center Fire Department was called to the scene and found the house on fire with most of the one-story structure already collapsed into the basement.

Haus face a maximum sentence of five years including 3.5 years in prison. Sentencing was set for Jan. 17.
