Booze-N-Belt campaign begins Dec. 14

JANESVILLE — Rock County law enforcement will have extra patrols on duty Friday, Dec. 14, to watch for motorists who are not wearing seat belts or are driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The effort will start at 7 a.m. and continue throughout the day and night. It is part of a statewide initiative, the Booze-N-Belts campaign, which started Friday and continues through Sunday, Dec. 16.

According to a Rock County Sheriff’s Office news release, motorists will be made aware of this effort through visible enforcement techniques. Officers will wear reflective traffic vests, agencies will deploy on shared roadways—highways 51 and 26—traffic enforcement signs will be posted and media will be notified before, during and after the deployment.

The extra patrols are being reimbursed through Wisconsin Department of Transportation grants.

Agencies that do not receive this funding will assign duty patrol, when possible, to support this one-day countywide effort.

Participating agencies are: the cities of Beloit, Edgerton, Evansville, Janesville and Milton; the towns of Beloit, Fulton and Milton; the village of Clinton; the Rock County Sheriff’s Office; and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
