Under the direction of Richard Severing, Choral Union, the 100-plus-member classical singing group with orchestra will perform two concerts -- the first at 2:00 p.m. and the second at 7:00 p.m. -- on Sun. Dec.9 at Cargill United Methodist Church, 2000 Wesley Avenue, Janesville. Photo submitted.
After a sellout crowd at its single concert last year, Choral Union decided to do things a little differently in 2012, its 131st concert season.
Under the direction of Richard Severing, the 100-plus-member classical singing group with orchestra will perform two concerts -- the first at 2:00 p.m. and the second at 7:00 p.m. -- on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Cargill United Methodist Church, 2000 Wesley Avenue, Janesville, WI 53545.
"Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff is the headliner for the 2012 Choral Union concerts. If you don't think you know this 1937 composition, think again. Excerpts of the work have been widely used in movies and television commercials throughout the world -- from "Excalibur" and Oliver Stone's "The Doors" to "That 70's Show" and an Old Spice commercial. It has been 19 years since Choral Union last performed this work, and the piece continues to be a favorite of audiences, orchestras, choruses, and soloists. "Crown Imperial March" by William Walton completes the concert program.
Soloists include Saira Frank (soprano), Spencer Schumann (countertenor), and Evan Bravos (baritone).
Tickets are $10.00 and may be purchased at the door on performance day, in advance by calling (608) 741-5074, or from Choral Union members. Credit cards are not accepted.
