Stoughton man drove drunk 21 times in 30 years: Prosecutor

JANESVILLE — A Stoughton man prosecutors say has been arrested 21 times for drunken driving was sentenced Wednesday for 10th-offense drunken driving.
Assistant District Attorney Jodi Dabson Bollendorf told Rock County Judge James Daley that Paul G. Barber, 52, has been arrested for drunken driving 21 times in multiple states since 1982. Under Wisconsin statutes, prior convictions before 1989 cannot be counted.
Daley sentenced Barber to six years in prison and five years extended supervision.
According to reports, a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper found Barber sitting in a vehicle parked on the side of Interstate 90/39 on May 25. The vehicle was smashed on one side. Barber initially told the trooper he'd rolled the car but later changed his story, telling the trooper he couldn't remember what had happened.
Barber apparently refused to complete field sobriety tests, telling the trooper "I'm done with this," according to reports. At the time, he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.296—nearly four times the legal limit, according to reports.
