Former Gazette employee arrested for theft

— An employee of The Gazette has been arrested on theft charges.

Michael P. Thoma, 48, of 1282 Black River Court, Whitewater, was arrested at 9:01 p.m. Thursday at the Janesville Police Department on a charge of theft by misappropriation, more than $10,000, according to police reports.

Thoma, a part-time employee of the newspaper, is accused of falsifying electronic timecards over a period of three years, the reports indicate.

He is accused of taking more than $13,000.

Thoma no longer works at the newspaper.
