Snappers fall in 13 innings

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored two runs in the bottom of the 13th inning Sunday to defeat the visiting Beloit Snappers, 9-8, in Midwest League baseball.

The Kernels scored three runs on a two-out base-loaded triple in the ninth to knot the game 7-7. Beloit scored a run in the 13th to take an 8-7 lead on Miguel Sano's RBI double.

The Snappers posted 15 hits to the Kernels' 11. Cedar Rapids committed four errors to the Snappers' one error.

Beloit reliever Tim Atherton (1-2) took the loss after throwing back-to-back wild pitches to let the tying run reach third. A ground ball scored the tying run and an RBI single with two outs brought in the winning run.
