Bass caught by UW-Whitewater student ounces from record
WHITEWATER A University of Wisconsin-Whitewater biology student who is also a member of the school’s fishing team, got a near record-breaking catch near Edgerton last week, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel story.
Gabiella Esperson of Whitewater was fishing in a small lake near Edgerton—she won’t say which one so as not to attract more pressure from fishermen—last Tuesday with her boyfriend when she caught a largemouth bass that was 25.75 inches long and weighed 11.05 pounds.
The biggest largemouth bass on record for Wisconsin is 11 pounds, three ounces, set in 1940 at Lake Ripley in Jefferson.
Esperson released the fish back into the lake, hoping it would grow and reproduce.
