Suspect in bank robbery shot during police chase near Mukwonago
MUKWONAGO A bank robbery suspect was shot and wounded by Walworth County sheriff’s deputy in the midst of a police chase that wove between Waukesha and Walworth counties Friday afternoon, according to a report by Fox6 News.
The robbery occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at People’s Bank, 837 N. Wisconsin St., near Wisconsin Highway 67 and County Highway A in Elkhorn. According to the report, the suspect was armed and got away with an undetermined amount of money.
Almost immediately after, a Wisconsin State Patrol officer spotted a car matching the suspect’s vehicle description and started a chase.
The pursuit went in and out of Waukesha and Walworth counties, finally heading down Marsh Road where, just north of County Highway J, officers laid down stop sticks in the road.
The suspect swerved to avoid the stop sticks and headed straight for a Walworth County sheriff’s deputy, who took action by firing at the oncoming suspect’s vehicle, striking the man.
The suspect was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The deputy, a five-year veteran of the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office was, as normal procedure, placed on administrative leave while the case is being investigated.
