Applications open for artists, art teachers to decorate state Christmas tree

— Applications are now being accepted to decorate Wisconsin’s 2012 national Christmas tree display. Each year, a professional artists is selected to work with a youth arts class or program to create ornaments displayed on Wisconsin’s national Christmas tree in Washington D.C.

To commemorate 2012 as the Year of the Veteran, a Wisconsin artist will be selected to work with a group of children who have family members who are veterans or are currently serving in the military. Children will decorate globes provided by the National Park Foundation. The globes can be viewed on http://www.darice.com/ecom/productdetails.aspx?it=1105-89&oid=5898

To apply, artists or art teachers should send the following information to govpress@wisconsin.gov:

--name of artist or art teacher

--email address

--phone number

--mailing address

--a brief description of artistic background and training

The deadline to apply is Fri., Aug. 31.
