— The 394th weekly Support Our Troops Rally will be held at 11 a.m. on Labor Day, Mon., Sept. 3, at the Park Stage (near the Log Cabin) during the Walworth County Fair.

Every Monday at 11 a.m. since Nov. 29, 2004, a rally has been held at the Government Center on the square in Elkhorn (the center will be closed on Labor Day).

The weekly rallies recognize troops with ties to Walworth County who are serving in Afghanistan or other areas in the world, as well as those who have served there and returned or moved on to a new duty station. The families of personnel are also recognized. Recent events in Afghanistan have caused the committee to be even more concerned about the morale of our troops serving there. The public is asked to keep our troops in their prayers.

As part of the Sept. 3 rally, special recognition will be made of the 88,000 POW/MIAs unaccounted for from previous wars.

Over the past nearly eight years, the Support Our Troops Committee has shipped over seven tons of items to our troops in 1,593 packages with a value of over $47,790. Recently the group has shipped a personal GPS system and 30 brand-name coffee makers with coffee, cream, sugar, cups, etc. to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

All groups or individuals wishing to make a donation may do so by mail to: American Legion, P.O. Box 821, Elkhorn, WI, 53121.

To provide the committee of the names of military members with Walworth County ties, call (262) 275-6587.
