State reports 1st cases of new swine flu strain
MADISON Wisconsin health officials report two cases of people infected with a new strain of swine flu.
Both people are connected to the Wisconsin State Fair — a worker and a swine exhibitor.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the exhibitor is an adolescent who lives in western Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says the other infected individual, an adult from southeastern Wisconsin, did not report any direct contact with swine.
It's the first human cases of the new flu strain reported in Wisconsin.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported more than 150 cases of human infections in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Hawaii and Michigan this summer. The health services department says all of the cases occurred in persons exposed to or in proximity to pigs.
