Marcum pitches into fourth, but Snappers prevail
BELOIT Shaun Marcum allowed three runs on four hits in his three-plus inning rehabilitation start for the Milwaukee Brewers' low A affiliate Wisconsin Timber Rattlers as the Beloit Snappers defeated the Timber Rattlers, 13-10, in a 25-hit slugfest Wednesday in Midwest League baseball.
Marcum, a Brewers starter, went down with a sore elbow a month ago and was making his first rehabilitation start. Marcum allowed two earned runs, striking out four and walking a pair in front of 1,830 fans.
Marcum left with the bases loaded in the fourth inning. Marcum gave up a leadoff double to Eddie Rosario, who scored on Kennys Vargas's one-out single. Vargas was called out attempting to stretch his hit to a double.
Drew Leachman singled and stole second. Marcum issued two straight walks and Jacob Burns replaced Marcum.
Burns walked in a run and coaxed a fly ball to end the inning as Beloit cut the Rattlers' lead to 4-3.
The Snappers took the lead for good with a five-run rally in the eighth inning that gave Beloit a 13-9 lead. Matthew Koch socked a thee-run homer and Rosario ripped a solo shot to highlight Beloit's rally.
Beloit finished with 13 hits. Wisconsin had 12 hits.
