Necci wins in Walworth County DA race
ELKHORN Delavan resident and Elkhorn attorney Dan Necci will be Walworth County’s new district attorney. As of late Tuesday night, acccording to the Walworth County clerk's office, with all 39 precincts in the county reporting in the Aug. 14 primary, Necci had 7,388 votes and Steven Harvey had 3,465.
The two Republicans were the only names for district attorney on the ballot; there was no Democratic candidate.
Necci, who announced his candidacy on Twitter in January, had endorsements from a range of county politicians, including the Republican Party of Walworth County, former Walworth County District Attorney David Danz, state Rep. Tyler August and Delavan Mayor Mel Nieuwenhuis.
A Delavan resident who practices law in Elkhorn, Necci, 33, had been criticized for his lack of criminal prosecution experience. But he countered he had been approached by circuit court judges and law enforcement leaders asking him to run.
The former Walworth County District Attorney Phil Koss, who is now a Walworth County circuit court judge, had run unopposed since he was elected in 1990.
