Bases-loaded walk lifts Snappers over Chiefs
BELOIT A bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning led the Beloit Snappers to a 3-2 victory Monday over the Peoria Chiefs in Midwest League baseball.
Miguel Sano and Kennys Vargas hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning to give Beloit a 2-0 lead. Snappers' starter Matt Tomshawk blanked the Chiefs on three hits through seven innings.
A leadoff double off reliever Mason Melotakis (3-1), an RBI fielder's choice, a Vargas throwing error and an RBI sacrifice fly pulled Peoria to a 2-2 tie in the eighth.
After Chiefs reliever Austin Reed (4-6) walked the bases loaded with two out, Drew Leachman walked and Wang-Wei Lin scored the winning run.
Snappers closer D.J. Baxendale stopped the Chiefs on one hit in the ninth to earn his first save.
