Four Janesville athletes honored at WIAC banquet

MADISON — Four former Janesville athletes were among those honored at the WIAC Centennial Banquet at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison on Saturday.

Gregg Clatworthy, Jayme Anderson, Aubrey Lewis-Byers and Brian Dunk were honored as members of the all-time WIAC centennial teams in their respective sports.

Clatworthy, a Craig graduate who went to UW-Whitewater, was named as a member of the all-time men's golf team.

Anderson, a Parker High graduate, earned a spot on the all-time women's basketball team. She played at UW-Eau Claire.

Lewis-Byers, a Craig graduate, made the men's basketball centennial squad. He starred at UW-Whitewater.

Dunk, a Craig graduate, earned a spot on the all-time men's tennis team. He played at UW-La Crosse.

The WIAC is celebrating its 100th year of existence.

A capacity crowd of more than 1,400 individuals attended the banquet. The banquet is just one of a number of activities and events associated with the WIAC Centennial Celebration, many of which will take place during the 2012-13 academic year.

"The response to the banquet was overwhelming and is indicative of the conference's status as the most accomplished Division III conference in WIAC history and its special place in the annals of Wisconsin sports," said WIAC Commissioner Gary Karner.

Athletes from Wisconsin, 22 other states and Canada were honored on the centennial teams.

The evening featured a video presentation that chronicled many of the people and events that led to the formation and evolution of the conference over the past 100 years as well as recognition of the coaches and student-athletes selected for the conference's All-Time Teams.

The evening also included the induction of the inaugural class of the WIAC Hall of Fame.
