— Janesville Parker’s baseball team continues to be snakebit.

The Vikings gave up an unearned run in the top of the ninth inning Thursday in losing 3-2 to Madison La Follette in a Big Eight Conference game at Riverside Park.

Parker fell to to 2-8 overall and 2-6 in the conference despite outscoring its opponents on the season. The Vikings lost a tough 4-3 game to Janesville Craig on Tuesday despite leading in the seventh.

“We just can’t seem to catch a break,” Parker coach Brian Martin said. “But a lot of it is our own fault. We’re not executing at crucial times and making plays.

“We’re certainly a better team than our record shows. We just have to start making the most of our opportunities.”

Mike Heyerdahl went the distance for Parker, scattering 12 hits and striking out five. Only one of the three runs Heyerdahl allowed were earned.

“Heyerdahl kept us in the game,”Martin said. “He threw strikes and made pitches when he had to. We just didn’t give him enough support.”

Heyerdahl’s suicide squeeze bunt in the bottom of the sixth scored Jake Welch with the tying run to make it 2-2.

Parker, which managed only four hits, hosts Sun Prairie in a Big Eight make-up game today at 5 p.m. at Riverside Park.
