— A fire at Black Tie Stable in McHenry County that killed 18 horses on April 11 has been ruled accidental, but the cause has not been determined, according to a story in the Morris Daily Herald.

The story reported fire officials said the cause of the fire could be one of several reasons, including a charcoal grill or even a nearby controlled burn, but the debris inside the stable made it difficult to determine the exact cause.

The fire housed horses with several different owners. The 22 horses that survived the blaze were being relocated to other stables.

The owner of the stable, Richard Wright, lost 11 horses he’d been caring for, including two of his own.

Private horse owners and veterinarians have donated hay and other items for the rescued horses.
