— Janesville Craig’s girls soccer team hung tough with Madison West on Thursday night, but the physical Regents prevailed with a late three-goal burst.

Rose Brown scored the go-ahead goal at 62:25 and Mo Speer added an insurance goal three minutes later to lift West to a 4-2 win in the Big Eight Conference opener for both teams.

Craig (1-1-1, 0-1) took a 2-1 lead early in the second half on Monica Speth’s goal.

“We had our chances, but West’s physical play took a toll on us at the end,” Craig coach Bill McCabe said.

Craig plays at a two-day tournament in Fond du Lac starting tonight.
