Mann Brothers, a longtime Elkhorn contractor, has defaulted on a bridge project in Fitchburg, according to a Wisconsin Department of Transportation engineer.

— Mann Brothers, an Elkhorn contractor, has defaulted on a $6 million project, leading to questions about its business status, according to a Wisconsin State Journal story.

The story noted that the contractor has not worked on a bridge and interstate project in Fitchburg since December, and not paid its subcontractors or suppliers, according to a state Department of Transportation engineer on the project. The company faces financial penalties for the default. The engineer noted the contractor is behind in payment to sub-contractors and suppliers on other projects as well.

A city engineer is quoted in the story as saying a bonding company took over the project because Mann Brothers went out of business.

A Dot spokesperson noted that the state is negotiating with a bonding company to get bills paid and the project completed.
