Aurora Lakeland donates cardiac monitors to area rescue squads

Aurora Lakeland Medical Center recently purchased two state of the art cardiac monitors and donated them to two local rescue squads in the town of Delavan and the village of Williams Bay. The cardiac monitors, at a cost of $24,000 each, allow emergency personnel to acquire, analyze and transmit electrocardiographs directly to the hospital’s emergency department. This allows the Emergency Department physician to begin treating the patient well before they arrive at the hospital. With these two donations, every rescue squad in Walworth County now has the same capability.

Aug. 1 deadline for many hunting seasons

MADISON -- Hunters and trappers should remember permit applications are due Aug. 1 for the following seasons: fall wild turkey, Canada geese in the Horicon Zone, sharp-tailed grouse, bobcat, fishers and otter. Any fall turkey permits remaining after the initial drawing will go on sale beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, a departure from previous years when sales didn’t start until noon. Leftover fall turkey permits will be sold by zone until sold out of the season ends.

Dumb and dumbest

WASHINGTON -- Extrapolating the views of retiring Democratic Rep. Gary Ackerman of New York, might we conclude that extreme partisanship is a function of … dumbness? If so, then whose fault is that? Education’s? Surely, at least in part. But the problem is broader than a single institution. Dumbness permeates every aspect of our lives, including, dangerously, our media.
