LAKE GENEVA Badger High School music students have the opportunity to spend spring break, 2011, at Disneyworld in Orlando, Fla.
An estimated 300 students will make the trip and are trying to raise $600 each to cover transportation, food vouchers and lodging plus passes to Disneyworld and Universal Studios.
The students will also participate in Disney Musical Clinics, an intense three-hour class with professionals responsible for the Disney soundtracks and will have their final performance professionally recorded.
Getting there will take hard work and the Music Boosters and students are rolling up their shirtsleeves and are ready to work hard to meet their goal. However, community support is needed to make this become a reality.
Upcoming fundraisers could cut the ticket cost as much as $75 per student. Here is the schedule and what is needed.
Upcoming events:
• Homecoming Tailgate: Music Boosters will be selling pulled pork sandwiches, chips and beverages and some vegetarian meals before the Friday, Oct. 15, homecoming game.
In addition to feeding Badger fans, Boosters also feed all members of the marching band at no charge.
Donations of chips, canned soda, buns, Nescos, and help with set up and tear down would be greatly appreciated;
• Silent Auction: from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, the Music Boosters will host its annual silent auction and lasagna dinner at the school.
Donations for the auction are needed. In past years items such as golf clubs, quilts, art work, golf packages, hotel packages, oil changes, appliances, gift certificates, iPods, and more have been donated.
This is the Music Boosters biggest fundraiser of the year. Babysitting will be available at no cost during the event so parents can enjoy the meal and peruse the auction offerings.
Donated items should have an estimated retail price and a suggested starting bid attached.
Items can be dropped off during school hours at Badger High School or pick up can be arranged.
• Northern Illinois University Jazz Band will perform with Wycliffe Gordon at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20. There will be all-day clinics for students.
Admission to the concert is $8 at the door, general admission; $6 for students and seniors.
• Breakfast with Santa will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, from 8 to 11 a.m. Set up will begin at 6 a.m. A craft sale will be held and Santa Claus will be there to pose for photos and take list minute gift suggestions.
