JEFFERSON -- Frank's County Market in Jefferson closed Saturday, although the Elkhorn and East Troy locations remain open and are unaffected by the closure.

Owner Frank Lueptow told the Jefferson Daily Union that three things contributed to the Jefferson store's demise: the arrival of big box stores (ie: the Walmart Supercenter that located across the street); the 2008 flood that shut off portions of the city, literally cutting it in half for 18 days and cutting traffic on State Highway 26, and the overall poor economy.

The Jefferrson store employed 44 people and closed Saturday.

"I am proud of the store and all of our employees," Lueptow said. "We just can't support the losses anymore."
