Beulah sailor wins leadership award

— Christine Porter of the Lake Beulah Yacht Club and Carrie Bargren of the South Shore Yacht Club will receive U.S. Sailing's One-Design Leadership Award for 2010.

The award will be presented Nov. 14, 2010 at the One Design Sailing Symposium in Corona del Mar, Calif.

The award recognizes the recipients individual initiative, enthusiasm, organizing ability and leadership at the 2010 ICSA National regatta.

Porter and Bargren began work on the regatta three years ago, and raised $120,000 to purchased new boats for the event and ran the ten-day event with the support of their team, alumni and parents.

One-Design generally denotes a class that races only identical boats.

The website Sailgroove.org also will receiving an award at the event The One-Design Creativity award recognizes outstanding individual creativity and contribution in the year's most innovative one-design event of national or international significance.

Sailgroove was nominated by an ILYA member for its contribution to our 2010 National C and Big Inland events.
