— A Kenosha high school teacher was charged Wednesday with four counts of sexual assault of a student by school staff, after he was accused of assaulting one of his students.

Gregory D. Nelson, a 46-year-old physical education teacher from Indian Trail High School, was arrested Tuesday for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old female student, according to Kenosha police Sgt. Hugh Rafferty.

The high school junior said she first starting associating with Nelson in about November or December of 2009, when she worked for him through a school internship program.

The assaults allegedly occurred in Nelson’s van between February 2010 and March 2010 when they agreed to meet in a store lot after the business had closed for the day.

The Kenosha News reported that school officials were tipped off by an anonymous call and letter, and that prompted them to keep track of Nelson's activities at the school.

Nelson is expected back in court May 19.

Thank you BELOITGUY - I checked into it and still cannot understand what thinking goes on in the minds of people that do stuff like this - sick.

He was arrested sometime in March. Looking at 3 counts of felony sexual assault by a school staff member. Search Chris Kindschi and you are bound to find the articles.

Beloitguy, you have explained this perfectly. I see you are a new poster and you are very wise. Thank you for helping explain this.

What a sick man! Was he that desperate to have sex with a child? And again, posters, we all (including Joy) have a right to our opinions. An abundance of young girls and boys do have crushes on authority figures, but this man took it to the limit. He is one sick bas___d! JMO

Joy - This is just the type of reply creepers enjoy reading. The fact is people like this pedophile and the ex-soccer coach in Beloit is that they prey on girls they know will go along with the relationship. It is part of the way they operate. They don't pick the girl with all the strong friendships or from a stable home. They pick the girl looking for someone to care about them. They pick the girl without a dad or mom or parents who neglect their children. They aren't called predators for nothing.

JoyM, it's wonderful that you had "radar" for creepy older guys, but for some kids the attention of an adult is like a drug. Throw in a few dessert toppings like "this is our secret" and grooming is in full swing. It's also common that children who have previously been exposed to sexuality by an adult will then seek it out in a pattern that can be lifelong. All that said, it has no bearing on the case. This is a type of statutory rape and the question is his abuse of authority.

Joy, the line "when I was young we did/didn't.........." just doesn't work today. Kids today live in a different world than "we" (I hesitate to put myself in any group with you) did and face challenges and issues "we" never dreamed of. Add to this the difficuties of parenting a teenager today (either alone or with a spouse) and you may be able to imagine how difficult it is today for young people.

Now that we all know how smart and perfect JoyM supposedly was based on her recollection of herself as a teenager, can we get back to this story and the real world?

It's very common for teenagers to develop crushes on their "older" teachers, policemen, clergymen, psychiatrist, or any other authority figure and he would have been considered a figure of authority to her.

1) when I was 16 I was not interested in "old men" - anyone past early 20s, especially not white-haired and unshaven, no matter what they would have said to me, plus this guy would have been older than my father when I was 16 (total ICK factor) and 2) I admit, I don't know anything about her upbringing as to what she was taught or whether she was looking for acceptance she didn't get at home, etc. I was only thinking back to myself at that age and what I would have done and what I knew would not have seemed right. I was just expressing the fact that I was perplexed by her apparent actions - based on how I know I would have acted in high school. I am not perplexed by his alleged actions, which if true are reprehensible.

JoyM--She was 16!!! She obviously had a crush on him. Did you read the article? "school officials were tipped off by an anonymous call and letter, and that prompted them to keep track of Nelson's activities at the school." She probably thought they were IN LOVE and were going to live happily ever after. It's not too difficult to dupe a 16yr old.

But why did she agree to go meet him? Why would she not have questioned meeting off of the school grounds outside of school hours? If he is guilty, then he needs appropriate punishment, but I am just wondering why her radar wasn't working. She was 16, not 9 or 12.

It wouldn't matter if he were only 6 years older than her. He is in a position of power and took advantage of a young kid. We have an ongoing case in Beloit with our former soccer coach. I work with kids from elementary school to high school on a daily basis and I think of each them as my own child. How anyone can take advantage of them is beyond me. Sick, sick puppies!!

For crying outloud, the guy is 30 years older than the student! If he is guilty of the crimes, he is scum. Either way (innocent or guilty), he might want to consider retirement or find a new career.
