The Support Our Troops Committee of the Walworth County Council of the American Legion is seeking donations of baseball/softball gloves and balls to be sent to troops with ties to Walworth County currently deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The items can be either new or in repairable condition.

Sam Gonzales of the committee has offered to inspect the items donated and recondition them, if necessary.

Walworth County Council Commander, Peter Kahl said this is a continuation of the program started two years ago by Commander Rich Hinners, now deceased.

Feedback from troops who received balls and gloves indicated that they were immediately put to use in their spare time and were appreciated.

Items can be deposited in drop boxes in front of Legion Posts in East Troy, Delavan and Lake Geneva.

For more information, call (262) 203-2129 or (262) 248-8400.

Boxes of treats for the month of July have gone out to troops with ties to Walworth County now serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over the past five and one half years the Support Our Troops Committee has shipped 1,270 boxes weighing over six tons in total.

Rallies are held weekly at 11 a.m. every Monday morning in Room 214 of the Government Center in Elkhorn. The public is invited to attend and show support of those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
