— Three candidates are competing for one seat on the Geneva Town Board. Voters Tuesday, Feb. 16, will narrow the field to two.

The candidates are:

Gene Decker

Age: 63

Address: W4159 Hemlock Road, Lake Geneva.

Job: Retired from Morton Salt, Chicago.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from the University of Nebraska in 1971, and a master’s degree in business administration from Pennsylvania State University in 1990.

Community service: Member of the Lake Como Beach Property Owners Association, 2007-present. He currently serves as treasurer of the association and the project manager for the lakeshore restoration project.

Elected posts: None.

Major campaign issue: Decker said he is running to ensure the people of the Lake Como Beach Property Owners Association are well represented on the town board. “We have 1,000 homes in the association. We are the majority of the township,” he said. “I think we would be doing ourselves a disservice if we were underrepresented.”

Larry K. Kulik

Age: 53

Address: W3768 South Shore Drive, Lake Geneva.

Job: Recently left his job as an installation and repair technician for AT&T after 30 years. Paid-on-call firefighter with the Lake Geneva Fire Department.

Education: Served in the Marine Corps, 1974-1979.

Community service: Member of American Legion Post 24, Lake Geneva; member of the ad-hoc Lake Como lake committee, 1998-present; member of the Town of Geneva Lake Committee, 2008-present.

Elected posts: None.

Major campaign issue: Kulik said he is opposed to the building of a new town hall. “Careers are ending, foreclosures are up, and now is not the time for the town to build anything,” he said. “Tough decisions have to be made at the town level, and I think I can make those decisions.”

James Pody

Age: 55

Address: W2728 Hospital Road, Elkhorn.

Job: Electrical contractor and owner of Pody Engineering

Education: Graduated from Badger High School in 1972. Attended UW-Platteville in 1973.

Community service: Member of the Lake Geneva Lions Club.

Elected posts: None.

Major campaign issue: Pody said his key initiatives would be to move forward on plans for improved fire/rescue services in the area and to work with the sanitary district to bring water and sewer service to the south side of Lake Como.
