— First District Congressman Paul Ryan's re-election war chest has grown to more than $1.5 million according to the campaign's latest financial report.

Ryan reported a year-end, re-election account cash-on-hand amount of $1,565,450, which he attributed to a gowth of new contributors in 2009.

“The outpouring of support from people who have never before participated in the political process is amazing,” Ryan said in a news release. “Every month, hundreds of first time contributors are sending donations and telling me to continue speaking out about the need to spend and borrow less, get the economy growing, fix health care and the tax code and leave a better America for the next generation.”

During 2009, Ryan said he added 1,143 new donors to his campaign, including 751 in the last quarter of the year. The number of Ryan’s individual donors currently stands at 13,280.

Ryan raised more than $1 million in 2009, a non-election year.

During the past year, Ryan reported that 96 percent of individual contributions came from Wisconsin residents. Of the 5,571 Wisconsinites who donated to Ryan’s campaign in 2009, 62 percent gave less than $100.

Whew PanamaRed--feel better? It's been hard for any Republican the last several years (7?) as Congress has been controlled by Democrats so it wouldn't matter what Ryan proposed. He has been on some powerful committees. He also developed an alternative to the health care bill but of course no Democrat wanted to hear it--they kept saying there were no suggestions, which was a lie.
I like Ryan and hope he gets re-elected. His name comes up a lot in Washington. And by "doing so little for Wisconsin residents" do you mean bringing home scandalous pork packages as some other congressman do? I would rather have a Washington that just left us alone to do our own business--the less they do the happier I am. Every time they try to fix something they make it worse.

Wow, that's alot of money to raise for a Congressman who hasn't sponsored any legislation of consequence and consistently comes up with lame ideas. On Capitol Hill, Office of Management and Budget Director Peter Orszag deconstructed Ryans “Roadmap for America’s Future” plan, saying it would address long-term fiscal problems but in a way that many policymakers might find “objectionable” because it would shift risks and costs onto individuals and their families. Sure, that's one way to reduce federal spending, transfer the load to the hard working middle/lower class. Of course his Republican brethren were solidly backed his proposal. OOOOPS! It seems House Republicans sought to put some distance between themselves and Ryan’s plan. Ryans been in office for over 10 years and has nothing to show for his efforts (I'm using the term "efforts" loosely). Well I guess its back to the pulling another slip from the Republican "suggestion" box. Why do Wisconsin residents contribute to re-elect a Congressman who does so little for them? As Ryan said, “The outpouring of support from people who have never before participated in the political process is amazing,”. What would be amazing is if Ryan actually participated in the political process himself.
