The Delavan Fire Department has been awarded a grant of nearly $25,000 as part of the Department of Homeland Security's preparedness program.

The 2009 Assistance to Firefighters Grant of $23,085 supports training, wellness and fitness, firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment and modifications to the fire station and facilities.

It is administered cooperatively by the National Preparedness Directorate and the U.S. Fire Administration, which are two components of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency.

“This grant program has been an unqualified success in getting much-needed resources directly to local firefighters,” U.S Sen. Russ Feingold was said in a news release. “I have been and continue to be a strong supporter of this program, in no small measure because of the advocacy of Wisconsin firefighters.
