RACINE COUNTY -- A woman gave birth to a pre-mature baby in a Caledonia gas station bathroom Friday, but the 21-week old infant was too young to survive, according to a doctor.

The woman reportedly began having pains around 4 a.m. and she and her boyfriend had been on their way to the emergency room when she told him she needed to use the bathroom, according to a story in the Racine Journal Times.

The boyfriend told police she had a high-risk pregnancy and had been bleeding on and off the entire pregnancy.

Doctors said the mother had been diagnosed with a subchorionic hemorrhage.

She reportedly had kept up with all her doctor appointments and officers believed there didn't appear to be anything suspicious regarding the baby's death.

The 21 month old was to (should have been too) young to survive? I thought the gestation period for homo sapiens was 9 months.
