SHARON -- Firefighters from three departments are on the scene of a smoldering barn fire north of Sharon.

The fire broke out about noon Monday in a storage barn at N1749 County Highway C.

Smoke billowed from the top windows of the structure and appeared to have begun in the upper part of the building.

Crews from Darien and Clinton assisted with tanker trucks and extra personnel.

Several horses were outside near the building in a adjacent pasture and a horse trailer was standing by in case the horses needed to be evacuated.
