Maddie Saaf, junior at Badger High School: Thinking back on the 15 Christmases I’ve had so far, one of the most memorable was when I was in second-grade at Williams Bay Elementary School. That year was special to me because I got the part of Blitzen the reindeer in the Christmas program, for the song “Do You Know Blitzen?”
I was very excited to go out on the stage and dance around in my little antlers — until I was very nervous and ended up standing in front of all the people looking like a true deer in the headlights. After a few words of encouragement from my mother and older sister, I managed to pull through at the Christmas program and show what moves I had.
Since then, I’ve been involved with many stage productions, but I still laugh when I watch the video of me prancing around on stage in my felt antlers … transformed from scared little girl into one of Santa’s favorite dancing reindeer.
