With the help of a local store owner, Delavan's Chris Marsicano found a way to get the perfect gift for his mom.

Editor's note - Writer Margaret Plevak has found some of the magic of the season, from the carols on the radio and the twinkling lights throughout the neighborhood to the pageants held on elementary school stages.

Each day this week on WalworthCountyToday.com, we'll publish a favorite Christmas Memory from a Walworth County resident. Read all the memories in Walworth County Sunday HERE.

Chris Marsicano, owner of Village Supper Club, Delavan: When I was about 11 years old, I was in town with my father, Nick. We went to The library (Kimberly’s now), where dad stopped to talk with Stan Anderson, and I could go Christmas shopping at the nearby stores.

I went over to Begun’s Department Store, where I found a beautiful necklace that I knew my mother would love. It was $30, and I only had $12. Mrs. Begun, being incredibly helpful, told me since I didn’t have enough money, I could charge it because my father and mother had an account there. Since I didn’t have enough money, that was a perfect solution.

I went back across the street, very proud of my purchase, and showed it to Dad. He asked me how I got the money to pay for it, and I told him Mrs. Begun let me charge it. To say he was not happy would be an understatement; I was told to never do that again and I didn’t. Fortunately, he didn’t make me return it.”

Monday Karen Schlichter, Fairest of the Fair.

Tuesday Judith Rolfs, Fontana author, speaker and marriage and family counselor.

Wednesday William Sigmund, Elkhorn resident and Korean War veteran.
