BELOIT — Meals on Wheels Inc. of Beloit's winning story about how members of the community pooled resources to provide Baskets of Love for clients this holiday season earned them a $500 grant from Meals on Wheels Association of America/Subaru’s Share the Love grant program.

The next phase of the holiday competition relies on getting the most Facebook users to “like” its story. Winning that portion of the contest could earn the Beloit organization up to an additional $500.

The MOWAA/Subaru’s Share the Love event runs through Jan. 3. Subaru will donate $250 for every new vehicle sold or leased to the customer’s choice of one of five charities, including MOWAA.

“We recently have learned that Beloit Meals on Wheels will see its Older Americans Act funding through the Rock County Council on Aging reduced by $10,000 for 2011,” said Executive Director Marcy Berner-Reedy. “So the MOWAA/Subaru Share the Love grant is most welcomed at this time.

“And the Baskets of Love project truly demonstrates how this community collaborates so well to share the love.”

The Meals on Wheels program with the most “likes” will win an additional $500. Those placing second through 10th will receive $250. To “like” the local entry submitted for this Facebook contest, go to mowaablog.org and search “Beloit Meals on Wheels.”
