EAGLE -- The state Department of Natural Resources is floating a proposal to lower the level of Eagle Spring Lake, a recreational waterway just north of East Troy in Waukesha County.

A DNR environmental assessment says a lower lake level would improve water quality, the aquatic plant community and fish populations, including northern pike.

But residents say the lake is just fine at its current level.

They'll have a chance to voice their concerns at a public hearing scheduled for 5 p.m. today, Sept. 10, 2009, in the Clausing Barn at Old World Wisconsin, S103-W37890 Highway 67.

A drop in the level of the shallow-water lake will force many of the 240 property owners to extend their piers and shore stations farther into the lake at costs ranging from $500 to several thousand dollars, Tom Day, chairman of the Eagle Spring Lake Management District told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

An even greater fear is that the lower lake level will reduce property values because there will be less navigable water on the lake, Day said.

When is DNR going to realize you can't mess with Mother nature. They always worry about what plant life could grow in shallow waters but they have forgot that We are Humans and We SHARE this earth. So who sticks up for the Humans and what they need.

Leaving the lake level alone would be right thing and the natural thing to do.

By God, lets not do anything that could help the environment. My property value is more important than some silly fish or the quality of water they need to survive. Me and my property are MUCH more important than aquatic plant life. We can barely afford our botox injections and tanning bed treatments much less come up with $500 to extend our dock!
