HARVARD -- The BraveHearts Heroes on Horseback drill team, under the direction of NARHA instructor Tom Chambers, made their debut performance Sept. 4, 2009 at the Walworth County Fair.

The team, which rides out of the BraveHearts Therapeutic Riding and Educational Center in Harvard, Ill., had only been practicing their routine for about a month.

Despite some nerves, the team was pleased with their first performance.

Bob, Kevin, Ricardo and Larry (veterans from the Army, Navy, and Air Force) -- rode to "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."

This program is funded by the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs, the Arthur Foundation, the Baxter International Foundation, and the Recreation Therapy Department of Hines VA Hospital, as well as personal donations.

No veteran student at BraveHearts pays for services.

The next veteran demonstration will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 27 at the BraveHearts Fun Show.
