— A jewelry store owner shot a man during an attempted robbery, while an accomplice is being sought by authorities.

Kenosha Police Department officers responded to the Jewelry Exchange, located at 2400 52nd St. around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a report of a robbery.

According to a police department news release, two men entered the store with partially concealed faces and confronted the 55-year-old male owner from Kenosha.

One of the suspects allegedly pointed a handgun at the owner, who pulled a gun from underneath the counter and shot the suspect once in the chest.

Both suspects fled on foot.

An officer located the injured suspect lying on the grass next to a curb in the 2400 block of 51st Street.

He was conscious and had sustained one gunshot wound to the chest.

A .44 magnum revolver handgun was found on the ground next to the suspect.

He was taken by rescue personnel to Kenosha Hospital and Medical Center.

He is reportedly in stable condition and is expected to undergo surgery. He is under police guard.

The Walworth County Sheriff's office was notified that police are still looking for the second suspect, who is believed to have gotten away in a waiting vehicle, described as possibly a green Dodge Ram van, that was parked in the 5100 Block of 25TH Avenue.

He is described as a black male in his 20s, wearing shorts, a long sleeve black shirt, a baseball cap, and carrying a dark backpack. There is no description on the getaway driver.

The store owner is cooperating in the investigation. There were no other employees or customers in the store during the incident, which was captured on the store's surveillance video. That recording is not being released at this time.

Anyone with information concerning the second suspect and the getaway driver is asked to call the Kenosha Police Department at 262-605-5200. Those wishing to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 can call Crime Stoppers at 262-656-7333.
