Blue chooses Marquette
MADISON — Vander Blue, Madison Memorial High School’s star guard, has made a verbal college basketball commitment—again.
After withdrawing his verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin last May, the 6-foot-4 senior confirmed Sunday that he has committed to Marquette, one day after his official visit to the Milwaukee campus.
And this time, he told the Madison media, he will not be changing his mind.
“There is no backing out,” Rob Schultz reported on the Madison newspapers’ Web site. “This is what it’s going to be.’’
Blue cited Marquette’s style of play, academic support and a chance to play in the Big East Conference as the reasons for his decision.
The decision leaves Wisconsin with a vacant scholarship. At this point, Eau Claire North center Evan Anderson and Port Washington guard Josh Gasser are the only Badger recruits who will be signing in November.
Blue’s former teammate, Jeronne Maymon, is a freshman on Marquette’s roster. Blue averaged 17 points and 5.5 rebounds a game last season, and the two led the Spartans to the WIAA Division 1 state championship.
