The Walworth County Fair sign, with all three chickens, as it looked at the opening of this year's fair. Dan Plutchak/file.

ELKHORN -- The Elkhorn Police Department is on the lookout for chicken thieves.

But the stolen animals aren't just any chickens. They are two of the three chickens that were part of the sign at the entrance of the Walworth County fairgrounds.

The new sign was installed this summer at the corner of Fair, Court and Jackson streets. The project spearheaded by Gary Wallem.

This was no easy heist either. The animals are attached to metal brackets fastened securely into the ground.

Not everyone is a fan of the sign. There has been some online grumbling in a Topix.com forum where one poster wrote Aug. 14, "Has anybody seen that tacky sign they put in front of the fair grounds? It looked like a nice sign until someone put those tacky chickens and a pig in front of it."

Police are seeking any information on the theft and are offering a $500 reward. Contact the Elkhorn Police Department at (262) 723-2210.

I like the chickens, pigs, and cows even though their sizes are not in proportion to each other.
The horses on top look Silly !!!!

Don't know if it's related but I recently saw a plastic rooster strutting toward that sign.

Perhaps not all people like this sign (I do. I think it is a really pretty sign and setup) however, whether or not it is like or not liked NO ONE has the right to steal parts of it. Period! Bottom line, if it isn't yours DON'T TAKE IT, DON'T TOUCH IT, DON'T DEFACE IT.
