BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP -- The vote on a controversial asphalt plant proposal in Burlington Township has been delayed once again.

The Town of Burlington Board of Supervisors won't act on the request until at least Aug. 27, 2009.

B.R. Amon & Sons of Elkhorn has proposed the asphalt plant for a quarry site just off Warren Road near Bohner's Lake.

The Racine County Economic Development and Land Use Planning committee last month approved Amon’s request to build the temporary asphalt plant.

Tom Amon, president of B.R. Amon & Sons, tried unsuccessfully to convince residents that his plant would not, as he said, negatively affect the environment in the surrounding area, according to the www.journaltimes.com

Neighbors opposing the project say their concerns include the long-term implications on health and environment caused by air pollution and ground water contamination; the increased number of diesel powered trucks on the roads; the loss in property values and the close proximity to a densely populated area and a elementary school.

They have launched Web site, www.bohnerlake.blogspot.com/, and are urging Amon to choose a different site.
